Man died in a burning Tesla because its futuristic doors wouldn’t open
- m-p-3 7y agoAFAIK, with the newer Model 3 you have to push with your thumb on the larger part to make the handle pull out, in a kind of lever action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObhEPkJPBNc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObhEPkJPBNc Having an entirely electronic door handle seems dangerous to me, you don't want it to fail at a critical moment such as this one. Maybe the lever one is the way to go in the future, even though it's not intuitive. First time I had to go in, I wasn't sure what to do so I couldn't blame a first responder not to know what to do on their first encounter with that kind of handle.
- ijiiijji1 7y agoImagine the Model S or X going into a river, ditch, lake or any body of water... first responders would have to have a tool on them to break a window, and good samaritans would unlikely be able to rescue occupants. Manual and simple wins over complicated and over-engineered every time, unless someone is a Musk fanboy and then whatever he does, he can do no wrong. Edit: Another car god, Henry Ford, inspired Hitler and wrote antisemitic propaganda, but thankfully Musk doesn't seem to be pushing eugenics or genocide. Maybe we dodged a bullet on him being a few degrees less than a Jobs-style CEO l'enfant terrible?
