I would have followed the same reasoning a couple of years ago, but have since had the "pleasure" of working with people that have been producing this kind of code for multiple decades. At this point, I've grown more amazed at how good humans can ignore self-inflicted pain and more cynical when it comes to believing in their adapability. Though that obviously does not apply to everyone.
