  Yes it is lol -- Zach (the comic creator) has a longstanding admiration and jealousy of Randall and XKCD's popularity, and references it occasionally.

  I think they are friends. I seem to remember Munroe mentioning Weinersmith in something online a few years back.

  "Dig" implies malice, I think 'poke' or 'rib' is more precise. </pedantic>
