autoconfig, DHCP, DNS, cut & paste, and pen/paper all work fine, depending on the reason you need to move the address.
I doubt there is much discussion because there isn't really a way around it. The world is full of situations (MAC addresses, VIN numbers, software serial numbers, content hashes, UUIDs, etc, etc, etc) where a global address space doesn't fit in Human short term memory.
Computers are pretty good at remembering numbers for us, that would be my first choice.
