Strange. You seem to have posted a link to a source discredited on the subject of climate. The fact that we are seeing the same headlines for many years now should have been an obvious giveaway to you before you posted it.

> A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.
- danso 7y agoYour response to an assertion that an image is outright doctored is to post a quote from a senior U.N. environmental official?
- dexen 7y agoYou fact-checked a meme. That's more befitting Snopes[1] than serious HN discussion. Thus my joking response - mirroring your post's form & logic, and yet arriving at the opposite result. Essentially me lampooning your position "factually wrong but morally right"[2], as the (UN environmental official's) quote turned out to be factually wrong. I will stick to the "> The fact that we are seeing the same headlines for many years now should have been an obvious giveaway" part tho. -- [1] https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-fact-checker-declares-war-on-satire-11566428259 https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-fact-checker-declares-war-on-... - danso 7y agoThe submitter of the image did not believe it to be a meme.
- NeedMoreTea 7y agoYour quote appears correct "if the global warming trend" is not reversed by year 2000. It hasn't and we still appear to be marching towards the lower lying island nations, such as the Maldives, disappearing. There is no mention of when they will disappear. So it appears to strengthen rather than weaken the argument.
