I grew up near Portland, OR, which is at essentially the same latitude as Montreal or Ottowa, though the climates are nowhere near similar. Seattle is north of Quebec City! And, of course, going east across the pond, Toronto is at around the same latitude as the south coast of France, on the Mediterranean. Very counter-intuitive.
