- JDEW 7y agoYou can read NYT articles in a private browser window.
- scottlocklin 7y agoNot any more.
- dubya 7y agoActually, you can again. At least in Safari with Wipr installed. They're doing an overlay at the bottom of the window instead of just blocking the whole thing.
- forthehorde 7y agoThanks, will try that
- freefal 7y agoReader mode in Firefox will remove the subscribe banner and show the article.
- goda90 7y agoI find I have to press the reader mode button quickly. It seems to load the entire article, then Javascript moves/deletes most of the article so reader mode can no longer see it after a short segment.
- pluma 7y agoOpen dev tools, clear all storage and cookies for the site. NYT tries to detect private browsing mode but they need to use client-side data to track whether you've already read your free article. Note that in the US this information may violate the DMCA. But on the other hand their behavior violates the GDPR in Europe so fair's fair.
