Lonliness, particularly among the elderly.
- tabtab 7y agoDogs, man's best friend.
- dang 7y agoGets harder as you get more elderly.
- jacbop 7y agoI volunteer with Little Brothers: Friend of the Elderly in Chicago, and this is a serious problem and getting worse as we see slow decline of social institutions. My grandparent's generation had the VFW, Lions Club, a bowling league, golfing league, their church, volunteering, etc. I think part of it is economic: they had a much more comfortable retirement than what is possible today, so they had time for all this leisure. And part of it is technology and media, providing a distraction from loneliness.
- jariel 7y agoThe broad range of issues relating to the fact there were very few retirees 50 years ago that were old ... and who will now make up the 'majority' of people ... this is a huge deal. People retire at 65 and live to 100 - that's a long time and there are a lot of them, and there are a huge range of issues there from healthcare to mobility.
