I think "weird" is a bit of an umbrella term with areas of "weird" that make it pretty undesirable to work with said person. Do you believe there should be no other criteria other than strictly strictly technical competence when hiring? Some of the more unpleasant workplace environments i've had hasn't been because of lack of peer technical skill.
