Andrew Yang Is Full of It
- anon1m0us 7y agoSlate is suggesting trade deals are responsible for more job losses than robots and therefore Yang is full of it. However, the last sentence says, "By prophesying imaginary problems, you ignore the real ones." But finding reasons people are losing jobs not due to robots does not mean robots aren't taking jobs. It's a mathematical fact that robots are taking jobs. Container ports are being automated and hundreds of longshoremen are laid off at each port. Robots in factories. At the end of "American Factory" (spoiler) coming... the solution to the problem of "lazy" American workers was, you guessed it, replacing them with robots. It isn't just factory work either. It isn't just blue collar work. The internet and technology and automation is replacing absolutely everyone. There will come a day when it'll be almost impossible for a human to find work. I believe companies will just stop hiring them. Pretty much all the "human" work will be done by independent contractors who will be able to command very high salaries. The article mentions how low wage truckers will drive the trucks in the cities, but I don't think they'll be low wage truckers. I remember learning about river captains who are flown out onto large ships when they need to navigate up river. They're experts and command very high wages to move the ships. It takes much experience to learn now to pilot ships through shifting river bottoms and curves. I don't think it'll be cheap when we need humans to take over.
- drallison 7y agoJordan Weissmann writes a negative article about Andrew Yang and Elizabeth Warren and their respective economic plans bug includes no substantive analysis of either. Not worth the time to read.
- ncmncm 7y agoThis notion that those blaming "trade" and those blaming "automation" are in conflict is silly. Both are true. Some things get automated here. Some things go overseas. Some of them get automated there. It makes absolutely no difference to the person without prospects. Regardless, employment will get worse, but restricting trade won't help.
- teslaberry 7y agopolitics in a televised democracy, no less a youtubified one, is about the art of deceiving mass audiences into trusting you. i personally love andrew yang, because he almost point blank directs you not to trust him . now, the art of politics is based on the fact that most people are naive and simply don't understand the rules of politics no matter HOW MUCH they have been told them or study them in school. and thus, it must be this way. oddly enough, i trust yang because he's obviously not asking for your trust because he knows the whole thing is a joke and he is there to make money. then again he may be deeply deeply untrustworthy. as for almost everyone else on stage. they are obviously asking for your sincere trust. showing you they are. and hence, i wouldn't trust them farther than they can reach out of the televised screens which they use to communicate. politics is a giant lie. like the stock market, i'm almost dead certain a random spin of the dice would get you as qualified a leader as it would a stock capable of rising in price. democracy is largely for idiots and people who truly believe they are contributing by sincerely screening out the lesser of 2 evils (which they aren't) . disclosure---i vote on all primaries and runnoffs out of guilt. your REAL choices as a human being are voting on things by action, spending, choice of speech, choice of venue, choice of what you allow in and out of your body ears eyes and mind and what you let out of your mouth. voting isn't bad, but the more the franchise is diluted, the more worthless it is by definition. sure sure the 'wisdom of the crowd' yadayada, a crowd of 7 billion people and global govenrment will have a helluva democracy. i cannot wait to be 1 of 7 billion voting with 2 choices. vanilla or chocolate, either way you're gonna get ice cream unless you vote to melt it. then you get ice cream soup.
- IXxXI 7y agoIf Andrew Yang is concerned with automation job loss, he can propose measures making it easier to live off grid and grow organic crops. Easing the transition back to people becoming more independent and less reliant on private sectors and governments for bread. Of course, Andrew Yang will never do this.
- OnlineCourage 7y ago> live off grid and grow organic crops Great idea! I will start right after we have millions of people doing this and not starving.
