I had rather have this humility and not be worried, than having someone say that they are the best pilot. That would ring alarm bells because most of the brilliant people I have met are humble and seldom boastful. The mediocre ones are usually the loudest.
- 7952 7y agoExactly. A lot of skills have a level of depth that takes experience to truly understand. You can practice for years only to realise that it will take a life time of commited study. Understanding that is a good sign of competence.
- beefield 7y agoNot sure if there is an idiom in english like "nothing gives you confidence like complete ignorance" I am not sure there is any non-trivial skill[1] you can truly master without humbly "understanding" the vast amount of knowledge you do not hold. [1] Swimming in the deep end of the Dunning-Krueger pool is not counted as a skill here.
