Can we stop with the Switzerland IT hype?
Switching jobs take months before even getting interviews, bunch of useless people in all layers of hierarchy only good to believe the jumbo marketing crap from consultancy 100 times worse than Accenture.
And don't get me started on xenophobia or the place of woman in society.
- fourstar 7y agoYou’re missing the point. If you have an opportunity to travel for work, take it.
- Foobar8568 7y agoI am doing everyday one of the best commute in Switzerland if not in the world e.g. I am passing through the Lavaux. Your point? I spent too much now to go anywhere else.
- rolltiide 7y agoAll the German speaking countries have excessive bureaucracy Their direct democracy has produced annoying outcomes, all in all its had remarkable outcomes for Switzerland
- codesushi42 7y agoAnd don't get me started on xenophobia or the place of woman in society. Exactly. Moving to Switzerland is only a reasonable option if you (and your family) are white.
- CaptainZapp 7y agoMoving to Switzerland is only a reasonable option if you (and your family) are white. That's a silly statement. While there certainly is racism and xenophobia in Switzerland it's an very globally oriented society. Have a look at the Swiss football team, or the CEO of Credit Swiss, who happens to be black.
- codesushi42 7y agoHaving spent significant time in Switzerland, I can attest that no, it is not.
- CHsurfer 7y agoSwitzerland is definitely not perfect in this respect but I see a lot of evidence that it’s a good option even if you are not a white mail, which I am (for context). First, my wife is an Iranian Born French citizen and she is now VP of Technology at a 500 person energy company. She wouldn’t leave Switzerland for anything. Also, I work with many Indian colleagues who are very happy to be here. I’m not saying their lives are perfect and they don’t suffer from racism and prejudice but on the whole Switzerland is a very much a net positive for them.
- guessmyname 7y ago> […] even if you are not a white mail, which I am (for context) You are… what?
- snagglegaggle 7y agoBeing white isn't a ticket to Switzerland, it's a lot harder than that.
- adev_ 7y ago> And don't get me started on xenophobia I work(ed) in Switzerland for 7 years with Indian, Italian, Egyptian, Pakistani, American, Chinese, Taiwanese, Brazilian, Spanish, French, German, Australian, Austrian, and many other I forgot. Most of them still live here (lemanic area, not Zurich). There is xenophobia, like everywhere on the planet, but nothing impossible to overcome apparently. From my (European) perception, The Swiss are not highly xenophobic, they are however quite nationalist and very regionalist for European standard. > the place of woman in society. This aspect variate a lot depending of where you are in Switzerland. The Swiss-German side is more "conservative" on the place of woman is society yes.
