I believe Capacitor is the absolute life-saver of hybrid development. I've been using Cordova for quite a while and switched to Capacitor last year, and it made my life so much easier. Where Cordova tries to do anything and everything, for all platforms, with its super flaky plugins and buggy config.xml, Capacitor is really focused on doing one thing well: being the shell between your code and native hardware.
One of the major points is the code it generates for iOS and Android can be committed to GIT and is yours; you have full control over the native part of your app and could extend it in any way shape or form.
I have an app running in production now for almost a year and am so so glad I've chosen Ionic 4 and Capacitor. Kudos to the team.

While we remain big fans of Cordova we do have the fortunate advantage of building Capacitor in 2019 where we have access to much better JS standards, native tooling that is far more mature than before, and a clearer outlook on what devices/platforms need to be supported, not to mention Progressive Web Apps. We've tried to take advantage of those technological leaps and apply them where possible.
