It plays perfectly into the neoliberal ideal of expansive personal freedoms, enabled through technology, purchased by capital.
Why don't we see any fully autonomous buses? You could run buses 24 / 7 without worrying about drivers. The difference, people aren't going to pay 50k for a bus seat.
