During Great Recession, I lived in a rural area with a small town and big one nearby. I had 3 roommates. Everyone except me (union job) got laid off. Everyone in area were competing for few jobs available. Most new jobs were openings like restaurants often followed with cuts when they stabilized. Other businesses were hiring followed by reversal from top bosses to lay people off. We had like 10 or 11 layoffs in my household over several months. Ended up losing the place and my credit trying to keep us off the streets long enough to find new roommates or family help. Good news is I just finally built it back up to point that I got some rewards cards a few months ago. It just took a heck of a long time. :)
