Yes, and you're going to get down voted below the fold.
But it's historical dangerous to say "well ALL the good scientists and government scientists think X is true. Anyone who disagrees is on the take."
That means you Galileo.
- consp 7y ago> That means you Galileo. Who was not the only one, there were many more in his age and time, and was backed by measurable facts.
- huffmsa 7y agoBut they were slapped with the "* denier" label of the time heretic and either executed, exiled, or put on house arrest for life by the "good" government scientists.
- zAy0LfpBZLC8mAC 7y agoYou do understand that what made them right was not the fact that they denied something, right?
- huffmsa 7y agoThat's not the point. The point is that just because "the majority of" thinks one thing, those who disagree shouldn't have the label of heretic branded to them and completely ignored.
- zAy0LfpBZLC8mAC 7y agoCorrect. But those who just talk bullshit should still be ignored.
- starvingbear 7y agoI'm actually surprised at my fairly neutral score. Need to post on more vaccine and climate change articles I guess
- montalbano 7y agoAt the time of Galileo, were there extremely powerful corporations whose profits would be boosted by pro-heliocentric and pro-heretical views? The comparison seems a stretch to me but I'm no expert on the life and times of Galileo so I would be happy to be proven wrong.
- prepend 7y ago> At the time of Galileo, were there extremely powerful corporations whose profits would be boosted by pro-heliocentric and pro-heretical views? Definitely. The State and Church were dominant and depended on a heliocentric view (ie, rule by divine right).
- montalbano 7y agoI thought the church supported the geocentric view at that time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Inquisition#Galileo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Inquisition#Galileo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_Galilei https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_Galilei
- prepend 7y agoYou are right. I meant geocentricism. Earth as center of the universe was due to God making earth. Church was God on earth. God chose kings.
