In day-to-day life a lot of maintenance is neglected because it simply doesn't pay off.
My AC installer has recommended annual maintenance. $200 every year for him to come and, essentially, look at the pipes.
So far it's been 15 years, no checkups, all is good. If something goes wrong, the $3000 saved so far should be enough for most repairs I can think of.
- adrianpike 7y ago> $3000 saved oh man, I had an AC drain backup on a third floor condo once that drained in between the walls in all the units below. the unit owner reeeeeally should have gone with the checkup

- DataGata 7y agoYou'd guess that there is a trade off between "maintenance" and "insurance" and that a lot of people/corporations go with insurance.
