When I go to the local butcher’s shop and buy a couple of steaks, I don’t care about his political views.
Why should I in this case?
- davidw 7y agoI think that's a good question. One reason I might: Amazon has a lot more power and money than the local butcher.
- Symbiote 7y agoI care whether or not the meat is halal, which is a political (in some countries it is regulated by the government) as well as a religious view.
- samstave 7y agoI find it super weird that Muslims have this halal meat rule (which I actually prefer over non halal) but at the same time treat other people like absolute shit.
- wolco 7y agoMost Muslims are very kind and welcoming. Don't believe everything you see on tv.
- samstave 7y agoI have nothing wrong with Muslims Jews womever, but I do have a problem with “government” in general
- luckylion 7y agoIf you don't mind me asking, why do you prefer halal meat (I understand it it's not for religious reasons)? Does killing an animal by cutting its throat and letting it bleed out improve the taste? Is it just an easy way to avoid pork?
- Sebguer 7y agoYou probably would care about how your butcher exerted his political will if he was worth almost a trillion dollars and had entered literally every facet of your life, including selling police surveillance equipment that's installed on your own home.
- samstave 7y agoHey Alexa, how do you clean up a murder scene?

- gremlinsinc 7y agoDamn you... on one hand I'm very curious what her response is, on the other... I do not want to end up in jail.
- mikelyons 7y agoHe also would probably care if the butcher refused to sell to him on the basis of his political ideology, and was the only butcher in town after cornering the market.
- graphitezepp 7y agoWhat are your butcher's political beliefs about food safety laws?
- wolco 7y agoBut you would think twice if they had a nazi flag hanging in the window. Or if the owner refuses to cut meat for a gay wedding and everyone in town is watching who enters. You should care if what they are doing is against your belief system. There is a domain register that doesn't allow employees to smoke at work or home. I decided to pull my business because I don't want to support that type of company. Maybe amazon doesn't align with your views.
- davidw 7y ago> You should care if what they are doing is against your belief system. I think it's a legit question how far you take this though. Do business with nazis? Fuck no! Do business with someone with different ideas on the ideal rate of taxation? Seems ok to me. Somewhere in the middle things are a bit murky for me, to be honest.
- solidasparagus 7y agoI think this is primarily a response to employee unhappiness about some of these topics. Amazon also uses statements like this and the leadership principles to ensure that the autonomous two-pizza teams make decisions that align with the high-level beliefs of the company. It's going to be easier to push for climate-conscious decisions now that this document has been published.
