“If an elderly but distinguished scientist says that something is possible, he is almost certainly right; but if he says that it is impossible, he is very probably wrong.”
Arthur C. Clarke
- arbuge 7y agoA lot of not so elderly and not so distinguished scientists would also agree with his statement though. All it takes is familiarity with the physical constraints imposed by the speed of light and the distances to the planets in question.
- egdod 7y agoOur current belief is that the speed of light cannot be exceeded. Will we still believe that in a hundred years? A thousand? I have no idea.
- ahi 7y agoHe didn't say it was impossible. He said it was impractical. "will not" vs "can not"
- egdod 7y agoI’m not sure that changes anything.
