In 2014, in Chegdu, China, there were converted electrical scooters (the bike scooter, not the standing roller) everywhere. Quiet, efficient, no smell. It was miraculous. I'd really like to see that happen in the West, but there are some rather idiotic people around who thinks the sound - like grinding metal with a chainsaw - is part of the fun.
