I'm addition to trade and human rights-related issues we should also be talking about the Great Firewall as a protectionist tool. China blocks & throttles European / Western digital services but we allow their tech to be sold here. That's not fair. WTO rules should be updated to address digital censorship.
- moltensodium 7y agoThe WTO/World Bank is an arm of the US State Department. The rules serve to further US diplomatic and corporate interests, not openness or trade.
- freeone3000 7y agoOkay, so then we should DEFINITELY use it here, to promote US values over Chinese ones.
- moltensodium 7y agoOk. Just want to make sure we're all on the same page, this is about nationalism and competition, not freedom or trade. Pretending like we're opening the world up for everyone to become magical free millionaires just makes us seem naive and dishonest.
- hatsunearu 7y agoCool assertion, but even if that were true, why wouldn't the WTO enforce net neutrality?
- president 7y agoThis could not be farther from the truth. WTO has been subjugated by the Chinese, hence where we are today.
