On Ubuntu 19.04 I get the error message "wayland: wl_display_connect failed". Can’t run the hello program to see something.

  Do you use X11? Only Wayland is supported AFAICS

    Until they add X11 support that makes it pretty much useless for a desktop GUI (if you care about Linux anyway).

  You can compile it on linux and run it through "weston"
