I've noticed (in several years as an intern software engineer) that it's responsibility and foresight that separate junior and senior level developers, technical skill less so. Having in depth skill with a new technology is certainly a desirable attribute but I'd rather have the reliability of a n experienced developer (especially since they should be able to pick up something new).
