It's not a cultural issue, it's human nature. You are being asked about your performance daily in front of your group of peers. This will obviously psychologically pressure you to finish things ASAP, so that you can say that its done on the next standup. And that is why management like standups so much, I mean why not say what it is actually for, instead of coming up with all these other side explanations.
