I think you are right about the problems with the EFF arguments and the issues of providing easy shelter to criminals such as traffickers of child pornography (and many other, less emotional offenses). I'm not for legislation against end-to-end encryption. But Facebook does have to answer those questions about its policy. They will also have to answer for cases, where predators go free because the texts to their victims can't be recovered... No easy answers here!
