The United States also has a history with indigenous boarding schools. The Carlisle Indian Industrial School was established to “Kill the Indian: Save the Man” as phrased by the school’s founder [1]. One moment of grace in the otherwise sad tale was the school’s role in popularizing the forward pass for American football [2]. Jim Thorpe, the legendary athlete, was one of the young students on that historic team.
