Especially since we seem to have bimodal totalitarian impulses. Two opposing cultures, both of whom seem content primarily existing to reject the other.
I hope both cultures learn how to live with each other, tolerating dissent, before ignoring civil norms (i.e. escalating bigotry, violence) starts becoming attractive.

What's truly astonishing to a dyed in the wood red leftist like myself is how totalitarian an unreflecting the 'left' side of the debate is. Deplatforming fascists didn't work in Weimar and it has never worked. All it does is give fascists talking points about how oppressed they are and an excuse for violence, which they do a lot better than the leftist groups who in the US are even against something as basic as arming themselves. To quote Orwell: > The enemy is the gramophone mind, whether or not one agrees with the record that is being played at the moment.
