Advantages of tape for evidence is that it is way easier to prove that it was an original, not tampered with than a digital form. WIth that, I worked at the BBC in the early 2k period on a project to replace the last bastions of tapes in radio towards a complete digital system. Remarkably one of the drivers of this move was that the tapes used had stopped being manufactured. Ironically though like many things tech that from a user perspective - just work, parts of that system are still in use today. But then like many things - if it works, why change it does seem to play out more often than not.
