- dang 7y agoOk, we've changed the title to use language closer to how the project describes itself. Submitted title was "Node-GUI Qt-Based Alternative to Electron"
- nocman 7y agoThat's not entirely true. Electron's target is desktop apps written in Javascript. While it is true that the GUI is not written in HTML, you are still writing the logic of the application in Javascript, so there is still a large amount of overlap. And if the application uses a lot less RAM and performs way better (as I suspect it may), then a lot of people would be willing to give up using HTML for the GUI, so the app doesn't run like a dog and/or drain your battery. I don't know how Node-GUI performs or how much RAM it uses, but being that Qt is the GUI layer it is using, I suspect it will be a sizeable improvement over Electron. I understand where you are coming from. A lot of the selling point of Electron is reusing GUI components from web applications (and also just using the same tools to create GUIs that you use for web development). This tool obviously won't give you that. But I could see people using it as an alternative for Javascript apps on the desktop (especially if they prove to be much less piggish than a lot of Electron apps tend to be).
