- anigbrowl 7y agoI'm giving serious thought to throwing down money on copper paint to make a faraday cage undercoat next time I feel like a different color scheme. People today are subject to surveillance capabilities that George Orwell and the Stasi could not even have dreamt of.
- vxNsr 7y agoHow do you plan on having cell coverage or even WiFi inside your home?
- evan_ 7y agoMicrocell for cellular coverage, wifi shouldn’t be a problem since the transmitter is inside and you wouldn’t need to shield interior walls
- kranner 7y agoAnd less interference from neighbours' Wi-Fi.
- anigbrowl 7y agoWifi works fine inside a faraday cage. If I need cell coverage I can always go outside.
- Johnny555 7y agoIf you're so worried about surveillance that you're willing to turn your house into a Faraday cage, why would you have an active cell phone in your house (or provide a microcell that "they" can use for their own listening devices)?
- kspacewalk2 7y agoKey word here bring "capabilities". Stasi did a lot worse with a lot less because the authoritarian and intolerant ideology that brought Stasi about was in itself a lot worse.
- ars 7y agoLEO are not permitted to do this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyllo_v._United_States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyllo_v._United_States
- whenchamenia 7y agoBut they do, and know to use paralell construction to evade the law in bad faith.
- notreall1238123 7y agoYou would need windows still, I would imagine.
- anigbrowl 7y agoSure, but there are many workarounds for that.
- killjoywashere 7y agoIsn't it the wire loops of a Faraday cage what make it effective? I vaguely recall that a copper plate is less effective.
- anigbrowl 7y agoYou just paint a grid.
- darkarmani 7y agoThis would greatly cut down on interference from outside the home as well.
