This is a thing!
The ISS runs 120v DC for this reason...higher efficiency and much less complex since you don’t need inverters and and power supplies.
My burning man camp of 65 people also only has a DC grid that runs on 24v
30kwh daily solar harvest
It’s a thing of beauty :)
- holoduke 7y agoConverting DC voltage is unlike AC with transformers not easy or practical.
- makomk 7y agoVery few AC-powered devices even use traditional transformers anymore. Mostly they have some kind of switch-mode power supply which immediately rectifies the AC to DC. (Better and higher-power supplies have complicated active power factor correction circuits to do this.) Then they convert that high-voltage DC to low-voltage DC.
