Dropping out of college (or not attending college) for comp sci is great if you can make it work, or if you have the knowledge and discipline to get where you want to go. However, for many (myself included), it provided a framework that I wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. After I got that framework, then the idea made more sense to me.
