He, in my opinion, wanted to guarantee for his kids - the networks / access / prestige that come from attending elite schools Yale, Stanford, Harvard, Horace Mann, etc. The motivation for David Shaw isn't fighting inequality or discrimination but ensuring the best possible outcome for his kids.
