When I was in fifth grade, we had lunch break, and a mid morning break. Other than that, we were in the same room all day. "Don't go to the bathroom" when you have a ten-ish year old bladder under those circumstances is a completely unreasonable request. Where I grew up, elementary school was done in one classroom and taught by one teacher. There were no breaks between classes because we didn't have separate classes. I'm not convinced this is the best system, but I am convinced ~2 hours is too long to go without a bathroom break.
