Of all people that could talk about the matter it had to be the one that protects and encovers pedophiles, that a few centuries ago burned homosexuals and atheists alive, and they didn't stop because they realized it was wrong they only stopped because they lost political power after too many conflicts, one of the remaining institutions that keeps alive one of the biggest pilars of human stupidity which is believing in things just because, with arguments just as strongh as kids have arguments for Santa Claus and we are supposed to take them seriously? Listening to Tom Cruise as the head of Scientology would make as much sense.

- redact207 7y agoSince most other cultures in the world figured out the whole don't murder and rape thing, I wouldn't say the Catholic church is the common denominator.

- mattigames 7y agoThe opposite, I have read the Bible and it clearly supports slavery, stoning homosexuals and insolent children and many other things that are the opposite of a good civilization
- diegoholiveira 7y agoThat's a common mistake: read the bible. First you need to be catholic, only then you can read the bible without do the same mistake that our protestant brothers do. - mattigames 7y agoOne of the biggest event that shaped the modern civilization was the age of enlightenment, the ideas of the Enlightenment undermined the authority of the monarchy and the Church. [0] New Ideas such as Democracy, which is a corner stone of modern Western Civilisation, where opposed and denounced by the Catholic Church. - Apocryphon 7y agoThe Church of Scientology doesn't have a flock of over one and a third billions. And unique among religions, the Roman Catholic Church possesses enough temporal power to possess its own sovereign nation-state. It's perfectly possible to evaluate the statements of an organization that one is morally or ideologically opposed to without endorsing them, especially when that organization is one of the most influential structures in human history. At the very least, it's helpful in determining how the masses of adherents might react to those statements.
- mattigames 7y agoEvaluating or repeating their statements is to give them power, if the nazi party (yes I went there) would still exist I would not give an ounce of attention to their speeches even if they had a couple billion followers.
- Apocryphon 7y agoWell you should, as even in the modern day we listen to the words of all sorts of dictators and demagogues, at least to know what to expect in the future. That’s just how news works.
- devoply 7y agoYes where otherwise we have secular power structures that preach human rights while killing tens of thousands and depriving tens of millions of their judicious livelihoods and economic rights. Whatever power structure you are a part of come with ideological horse blinders for all the horses. Keep this in mind while criticizing. As Jesus said he who is without sin, cast the first stone.
