Did you pay income tax on that interview? Did they withhold taxes on that payment and issue it via payroll? Genuinely curious, but I suspect the answer is ‘no’

Did you pay income tax on that interview? Did they withhold taxes on that payment and issue it via payroll? Genuinely curious, but I suspect the answer is ‘no’ on both counts which might explain why this approach is less popular.
- pmiller2 7y agoThose answers should be “yes,” and “no,” respectively, because this scenario is properly a very short term contract. The employer should issue a 1099.
- rsyring 7y agoSome payouts are under $600, so we just cut them a check. Over $600, we issue a 1099.
