Are there any cheap tape drives? If not, what's the issue? Is it the fact the prices are kept high because it's used mostly by business/enterprises customers? If so, are there any hopes of LTO becoming mainstream for home desktop usage? Couldn't find much info on Google about this.
- NeedMoreTea 7y agoDAT (Well DDS) used to fill that niche. Used to be pretty reasonably priced - for tape. Went for a few hundred a drive, an order of magnitude less than LTO. Smaller capacity each generation though, but is an older standard. Disappeared for no apparent reason about a decade or so ago.
