The independent devices do exist. There are a few products designed for the elderly that have automatic fall detection. Usually they are a necklace type product connected to a call center. I’m not sure whether they rely on a cell network or WiFi. So if you don’t want to buy a watch, then get a standalone product. But if you already have an Apple Watch, then this is a cool feature to have.
