I used split-screen and some of the other desktop-oriented features in iOS 12.x and they were OK but not great. I think iPadOS has really polished these. Split screen is a lot easier to use, as are copy/paste/undo. Of course, the apps you use have to support these new features. There are some, like Kindle, that don't work well at all.
