Something I didn't realise, along with how much sleep babies need, is that they don't know that the solution to being tired is to go to sleep. I just assumed that if they were tired they would sleep. But they don't know how to go to sleep, or that the horrible feeling of being tired is solved by going to sleep, so they just get wound up instead.
