Know that fresh babies come out a dark red purple colour. I didn't know, and given the complications we had in childbirth, there was a good 30 seconds where I thought my baby was stillborn.
Also, if your baby doesn't sleep well, nobody will truly understand your hell.
- muzani 7y agoI'm not sure that's true. Both of my babies were grayish-red, and they often cry almost immediately after they come out. I remember a checklist where the doctor checked skin color and crying to gauge baby health. Still, it sounds like you got a healthy, happy baby. Congrats :)
- kibibu 7y agoYeah she had inhaled meconium and didn't cry; combined with a lot of nervous glances between midwives I was primed to think the worst. Anyway, babies range from dark red to a blueish-plum colour when they first pop out, and don't turn pink immediately. It's confronting if you're not expecting it.
