Everyone likes benefiting from Open Source until someone runs with their work and makes a profit. My take from all of this is that people have no idea what they're doing when they license their work as Open Source. The go-to process currently is to slap on the MIT license, call it a day, and then forget about it until they find out someone is massively profiting from it.
