A Kerbal living there permanently, being able to regularly go up and down the Mun. A huge fuel tank, to refuel the lander and ships en-route to the deep solar system. Resupply and refueling missions from Kerbin. Long-running swap-able science modules. The whole deal. Gonna be great.
- TeMPOraL 7y agoI did something similar few weeks ago; I put a science lab, a habitat and a bunch of fuel and RCS tanks in low Munar orbit, and designed a reusable lander for it. Try it, it's more rewarding than it sounds - if you want to collect Science from various points on the Mun, the whole round-trip to Kerbin quickly starts to feel like a chore. With a station in orbit, you also get to do more docking, which is one of my favourite parts of the game.
- avmich 7y ago> Resupply and refueling missions from Kerbin. Remember, for LOX-kerosene fuel LOX mass is about 2/3 of the total fuel mass. LOX can be extracted from Moon rocks, a lot of them contain metal oxides, so refueling from Mun in KSP could be practical.
- foxyv 7y agoThis is the only way to really do Mun lander tourism for career mode. I keep a fuel tanker and a lander in lunar orbit and my tourist can flies there, docks, and tourists with Mun surface on their itinerary go down while the Mun. Orbit only ones stay in the tourist can. Also good for science. I usually use two Rockomax orange tubes worth of fuel getting data from each biome. I only use disposable landers for initial science gathering missions until I get docking ports.
