- saagarjha 7y agoWhat, serif fonts?
- stakhanov 7y agoI don't believe the sites themselves make any stipulations about preferences regarding fonts. It's up to your browser. In any case: Regarding the downvoting: Bring it, bitches. ...just trying to set something straight about established cultural norms around the word "hacker".
- saagarjha 7y agoI’m still not seeing what you’ve “set straight”.
- stakhanov 7y agoJekyll is about taking a few bytes of text and turning them into the multi-megabyte-monstrosity that a website is nowadays expected to be. A real hacker responds to that trend Nancy Reagan style. "Just say no".
- saagarjha 7y agoNo, that only happens if you choose to make it a multi-megabyte monstrosity. My website, which uses Jekyll, has a home page that is under 10 KB uncompressed. It's just a HTML page and two CSS files: https://saagarjha.com https://saagarjha.com
- bdcravens 7y agoJekyll is design-agnostic.
- sbierwagen 7y agoLooking at the source of TFA, it seems it downloads a 5.3kb html file, two css files adding up to 2.9kb, and 11.9kb of javascript. (Including GA, alas) Not as slim as possible, but pretty darn small. My personal blog, using an even older command-line html templating engine (nanoblogger) weighs in at 3kb html, 1.8kb css, and a princely 13.7kb of js. (All from the code formatter I use)
- jamesgeck0 7y agoThe post you're commenting on was generated by Jekyll. The data transferred on a cold load is 70.76 KB. Most of that is a TypeKit font. It's still five times times less data transferred than the Stallman microblog you linked.

- compressedgas 7y agoNeither of those pages specify a font. If you are seeing a serif font that is because that is what is the default in your browser.
- ryacko 7y agoInterestingly, according to your links it looks like hackers invented microblogging. Most of those blog posts aren’t longer than a paragraph.
- wortelefant 7y agoFrom my own writing I found that short blogposts have many advantages, it really helps to update the blog more regularly than my previous strategy of writing essays twice a year. The lack of pictures also keeps the time investment low, I am less busy with choosing vague unsplash eye candy since. Seth Godin is my favorite short form writer, at least in terms or style, he really gets to the point.
