I read somewhere (not sure if this is actually true), that Fred Wilson coined the phrase, so he probably has great perspective if you can get him to do an interview. Evernote has had several stories written about them explaining how crucial the freemium business model has been in helping their rapid growth. I think the CEO did a piece for Fast Company if my mind serves me correctly. Hopefully these help.
