My suspicion is that most people asking questions of this nature will be unsuccessful. If the answer you receive is "No, it will take a year" and you would decide not to do it, you probably wont have the desire to push through the first few big hurdles you will likely encounter.

I think what they’d need is to learn enough programming along with enough of a given programming context (web dev, game dev, app dev, etc) to be able to piece something functional together. If they go purchase a book “Fundamental C++” then you’re right, they’ll likely give up.
