tl;dr "you should treat reporting on medical, scientific, and social scientific topics as having less than zero credibility" Well, yeah. You should treat all reporting as having zero credibility. Otherwise people will believe anything they read, especially if more than one source reports it. This is a logical fallacy. A lot of people have reported being abducted by aliens. So far, not much proof. But if the biggest media companies all reported tomorrow that a guy in Kansas got abducted by aliens, everyone would just buy it immediately. Nothing is true until it has been proven.
