Ask HN: What is the best part of being an Engineer at Google?
Other than the pay/benefits, when it comes to building high quality software, what does Google get right that you wish more start-ups would adopt?
- meerita 7y agoThere is some good perks I think: - Access to inmense resources and infraestructure you will never see in an startup. - Access to many experts in many areas. - The Google stigma: you are googler, that counts for your later enterpreneurship projects.
- brutus1213 7y agoI've never heard of the Google stigma ... I googled it to no avail. More info pls?
- meerita 7y agoIt's a metaphor. Once you become Google is something that is attached to your person, everyone call themselves "ex Googler", "former Googler", etc.
- gunnr15 7y agoThis is great to hear. Can you be more specific? For example, when/how are you able to bring in other expertise on a project?
- foolzcrow 7y agoHow awesome!! You get to work for a literally super evil company, so that's something. G literally has no morals and is Big Brother from 1984. Yes, they are dubious honors, but hey you employees will go down in history as the most hated company ever. 1st place is 1st place though.
