As a European I'm very happy about this decision. I'm not against Cryptocurrencies but Libra is an attempt by some of the most corrupt and unethical entities in the world (Facebook,...) to control financial flows.
I can only hope other countries will follow soon.
- oscargrouch 7y agoAlso, i know this will not be a very popular opinion here but, the prophecy in the book of revelation says about a entity(be it a country, company or both) who controls the financial markets and where only people who are 'marked', (have a valid subscription) can trade, buy, sell, etc.. Apart from the religious point of view, the control of a very powerful currency by one entity is very likely to happen. And while before computers and the internet we could use paper money and other means, and work without any sort of centralized control and regulation (at least a very effective one), with the extinction of paper currency and with digital control of a global currency, if this entity somehow decides that you should be left out you are doomed and will face severe consequences because you wont be able to support yourself anymore. I know i could have expressed my point without the religious aspect of it, but the fact that we are very likely to reach this point, its kind of creepy how someone could have predicted that 2000 years ago with a very different reality than ours. Im also glad that Europe is awake to understand the real consequences of all the mess this can bring. If the Nazi regime were happening right now, with all the tecnology we have, they would actually become a 'thousand year reich' and be unstopable. And i guess some greedy entity, someday might forge all the right symbols(digital currency, AI, control of truth, etc..) and become this inevitable hydra we cant escape from.
- Thaumatorium 7y agoIt's a centralized cryptocurrency. That is where the problem is. It's (IMO) not even the corruption of Facebook et al. which is the problem.
