It's sad that a journalist being tortured and treated so inhumanely isn't getting better coverage by his journalist peers
- ddingus 7y agoDo they not see their own risk of seeing a similar scenario? Or, perhaps they have settled. Compromise?
- coldtea 7y agoMost modern journalists doesn't even have 1/5th the independence of 60s-70s journalists. Many don't have the real life experience and cynicism either, they content to have a subtly more nuanced version of whatever the government/mainstream says... One reason is it's more difficult to make a living if you're fired (not many press jobs anymore, whether online or print), and more easy to be branded for life as unwelcome. As for going at it on your own, e.g. as a vlogger/journalist, if you get too much on the establishment's nerves it's very easy to deplatform you, not just from e.g. youtube, but even from payment platforms for donations...
- buboard 7y agoMost of journalism today is creative interpretation of tweets. If anything assange was much more responsible than many in the most prominent, subscription-seeking media
- mieseratte 7y agoThey're torturing him?

- amyjess 7y ago1) Assange isn't a journalist. 2) He's not being tortured. 3) It's entirely reasonable that a known and proven flight risk will be held without bail when facing criminal charges.
- somesortofsystm 7y agoYou are completely wrong: 1. He IS a journalist. 2. He IS being tortured. 3. Flight risk? Justifiable, imho.
- whamlastxmas 7y ago1) Assange is a journalist 2) He's being tortured 3) I wasn't addressing this
- ninkendo 7y agoPlease, explain how Julian Assange is a journalist.
- whamlastxmas 7y agoHe's a founding member of a very well known journalistic enterprise and has won an award for his journalism? He performs journalism and has done so for years? He calls himself a journalist and virtually every other journalism outlet does as well?
- ninkendo 7y agoDo you call wikileaks a journalistic enterprise? What journalism are they performing? Letting people upload troves of information, and just dumping them to the public without going through and vetting them, isn't journalism in my book. He's a journalist in the same sense that a data breach dumped on pastebin is a news article.
- buboard 7y agoWikileaks does vet the information and publishes in coordination with some other media. And they have a stellar record of publishing 100% true information, unlike some other major jounralistic media. The fact that some journalists are so vehement against Assange imho proves that he s a journalist. People always shoot the messenger
- monomyth 7y agoWhile I agree with your sentiment, he does fit the description: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/journalist https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/journalist 1.b: a writer who aims at a mass audience
- ninkendo 7y agook. Julian Assange: Technically a journalist.
